Comprising a new Casino (now a leisure venue), 144 bed boutique hotel, 2 restaurants and associated new public realm works the scheme is a major redevelopment in the heart of the World Heritage Site. The site contained a listed building that was partially demolished and converted alongside a significant new construction. The majority of the site is underlain by a Scheduled Ancient Monument. This highly complex and technically challenging development required close consultation with English Heritage, the Council’s Planning, Conservation, Property, Ecology, Archaeology, Transport and Urban Design Officers as well as the owners and occupiers of the surrounding, neighbouring properties, including the Theatre Royal.
