Cadbury, Somerdale, Keynsham

The practice was appointed by Taylor Wimpey to prepare a masterplan for 265 dwellings and 45,000 sqft of B1 Employment use on surplus land at the Cadbury Somerdale site in Keynsham. Providing a mix of 1 & 2 bedroom flats and 2 to 5 bedroom houses the layout was based on standard house types modified to suit orientation and to achieve a minimum EcoHomes Very Good rating and a density of 44 dph. The scheme provided 35% affordable housing. The site allowed for a sustainable drainage scheme, retention of mature trees and enhanced habitat for wildlife.

The scheme was developed to allow Cadbury to continue operations

whilst providing a significantly improved highway access arrangement. The contract was abandoned when Cadbury pulled out of the sale following their announcement to close the factory and local opposition.
