Avon Street, Bath

Appointed by Unite the challenge was to create a form of architecture that respected the grain of the City and, at the same time, sought to knit together two of the more recent developments of differing scales and levels of detail. The practice developed the design of a 4 storey building and a 5 storey block housing 300 student beds fronting onto Avon Street and Milk Street.  Both have a recognisably contemporary flavour but the "flesh" of the buildings, its material, and the scale proportion is, recognisably, Bath. The two blocks create an inner landscaped courtyard and internally the elevations are livelier, in keeping with the youth and energy of its occupants.
